A man who was once known in his home country’s arts and entertainment scene has been arrested in Dubai for allegedly promoting fraudulent freelance visas in exchange for money.
Authorities said the suspect targeted people seeking employment and better opportunities in the UAE. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai, working with Dubai Police, made the arrest after investigating illegal visa and residency practices.
The case began when authorities detected a fraudulent document in the possession of an individual. Further checks and investigations led officials to people allegedly involved in issuing and promoting the document.
Suspect Allegedly Promoted Fake Visas Online
Authorities said the suspect allegedly promoted fraudulent freelance visas for around two years through his personal TikTok and YouTube accounts. His online presence allowed him to reach followers searching for work opportunities in the UAE.
During the investigation, the suspect admitted that the visas sold for between Dh7,000 and Dh9,000. He also said that more than 40 fraudulent visas had been obtained through the operation.
One victim told authorities that he paid Dh7,500 for a visa and a job for his sister but received neither.
Legal action has been taken against those allegedly involved in the scheme under applicable laws.
Authorities Warn Job Seekers
Officials said some individuals and entities exploit job seekers by making false promises about employment, entry into the UAE or residency regularisation. They warned that such offers are often advertised through digital platforms.
Authorities urged people planning to travel to the UAE to complete visa and residency transactions only through official government channels and licensed service offices.
Applicants should also verify visa and employment offers through official sources before sharing personal information or making payments.
Officials warned that violations can result in severe penalties, including fines and deportation. Establishments involved in fraudulent activities may face even heavier punishment.
