Kuwaiti-Pakistani Businessman Plans to Take Plymouth Parkway Into EFL

LONDON: Kuwaiti-Pakistani businessman Muizz Ahmed Mirza is set to take control of English non-league club Plymouth Parkway FC through his international education company.

Mirza aims to develop the club into a professional side and take it into the English Football League (EFL) within the next decade.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Mirza confirmed that heads of terms had been signed with Plymouth Parkway’s management.

The agreement begins the process for a new ownership and operating structure at the club.

Mirza was born in Karachi and is based in Kuwait. He told Geo News that he wants to develop the club while preserving its identity and strong connection with the Plymouth community.

“My dream is within the next 10 years to see this club reach the EFL,” Mirza said.

He plans to make Parkway a full-time professional club within the next 12 to 18 months. His plans also include investment in the academy, infrastructure and stadium facilities.

Plymouth Parkway Plans Long-Term Growth

Plymouth Parkway was founded in 1988 and plays its home matches at Bolitho Park.

The club currently competes in the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier of English football. Plymouth Parkway sits four divisions below city neighbours Plymouth Argyle.

Mirza said his organisation has supported more than 3,000 international students and built partnerships with more than 600 universities worldwide.

He plans to combine education and football through programmes that could give students opportunities to play competitive football.

The programmes could also help students learn about the management and commercial operations of a football club.

Mirza said investment would not undermine the club’s history or local identity.

“Plymouth Parkway already has something money cannot create: history, identity, passionate people and a community that cares about its football club,” he said.

“My responsibility is not to replace that, but to protect it, build on it and give those people even more reasons to be proud of Parkway.”

Parkway chairman Mark Russell and vice-chairman Gez Baggott described the agreement as an important step for the club.

They said the proposed structure could introduce Parkway to international audiences while keeping the club rooted in Plymouth.

Pakistan Football Collaboration

Mirza said he was already in talks with the Pakistan Football League (PFL) about potential collaboration.

He said Plymouth Parkway could provide internships, training and other opportunities for young people from Pakistan as the club develops.

Mirza also wants to create a pathway for a new generation of British-Pakistani footballers.

He said the club could help talented players gain exposure, experience and opportunities within the English football system.
