Five Terrorists Killed in North Waziristan Security Operation

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Security forces killed five India-backed terrorists and injured two others during an operation against militant hideouts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, security sources said on Tuesday.

According to the sources, security forces targeted militant hideouts in North Waziristan and nearby areas during the operation.

Security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism and establishing lasting peace in the region, the sources said.

President, PM Praise Security Forces

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised security forces for the successful operation.

In a statement, President Zardari said effective operations were helping thwart the “nefarious designs” of terrorist elements.

He said operations against Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until terrorism is completely eliminated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said security forces had taken decisive action against Fitna al-Khawarij and foiled the militants’ plans.

He also said operations against terrorist groups would continue until terrorism is completely eliminated.

Recent Operations in Dera Ismail Khan

The latest operation came a day after security forces killed three Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Dera Ismail Khan district.

Security sources said the operation was conducted under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision.

A day earlier, security forces had killed eight militants during another IBO in the same district.

The operation followed intelligence reports about the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in the area.

According to security sources, three key commanders of Fitna al-Khawarij were among the eight militants killed.

Militant Attacks Rise in Pakistan

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp increase in cross-border terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

The country recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026.

According to data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), 225 militant attacks were recorded across Pakistan in September.

The figure was higher than the 199 attacks reported in August, marking a 13% increase.

Militant attacks increased for the third consecutive month.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used by militant organisations to launch attacks inside the country.

Islamabad maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have failed to take effective action against groups responsible for attacks on Pakistani security forces and civilians.

Kabul has disputed Pakistan’s position.

Despite several rounds of talks, Pakistan and Afghanistan have yet to resolve their differences.

The presence of militant groups operating from Afghan soil remains a major point of contention between the two countries.
