Pakistan beat West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test to level the two-match series 1-1 at the Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday.
The Babar Azam-led side comfortably chased down the 75-run target in 23.3 overs. Pakistan lost only its two opening batters to seal an eight-wicket victory and draw the series.
The victory marked Pakistan’s first away Test win since 2023. They last won away from home against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan knocked the winning runs in the sixth over after lunch on Day 4. Babar smashed Jomel Warrican for a second consecutive six to finish the match.
Abdullah Shafique, who made an unbeaten 160 in the first innings, remained Pakistan’s joint top-scorer in the second innings with an unbeaten 24 from 51 balls. Skipper Babar also remained unbeaten on 24, including two sixes and two fours.
Notably, the visitors needed only 18 runs to complete the victory. They finished the opening session of the penultimate day at 57/2 in 18 overs despite losing openers Imam-ul-Haq and Azan Awais early.
Pakistan overcome early setback
Pakistan got off to a shaky start as Jayden Seales had Imam-ul-Haq (nine) caught at slip in the fifth over with 15 runs on the board.
After the early setback, Shafique joined emerging opener Azan Awais (18). The pair added 27 runs for the second wicket before Shamar Joseph bowled Awais.
Awais’s dismissal brought Babar to the crease. The Pakistan captain batted sensibly alongside Shafique and guided the Green Shirts to their first away Test win since 2023.
Bowlers wrap up West Indies innings
Earlier, the hosts resumed their second innings at 103/6 on the penultimate day through all-rounder Justin Greaves. They added only 14 more runs before losing their remaining wickets. Top-order batter Brandon King, who suffered a lower-back injury on the previous day, did not come out to bat.
Left-arm spinner Usman, who dismissed West Indies captain Roston Chase with the final ball of Day 3, continued his fine spell. He bowled Kemar Roach for a duck just 12 deliveries after play resumed.
Greaves (three) and Shamar Joseph (nine) then shared a brief 12-run stand for the eighth wicket. Mohammad Ali and Usman dismissed them in successive overs. As a result, West Indies were bowled out for 117 in 46.1 overs.
Pakistan bowlers dominate
Sajid and Usman led Pakistan’s bowling attack in the second innings with four wickets each. Pacer Mohammad Ali chipped in with one wicket.
