Umar Gul Provides Crucial Babar Azam Fitness Update Ahead of 2nd Test vs England
Pakistan have received a huge boost ahead of the must-win second Test against England at Lord’s. Babar Azam has officially returned to full batting practice, Pakistan bowling coach Umar Gul confirmed.
Speaking to the media at Lord’s on Tuesday, Gul shared an encouraging update on Babar’s recovery. The former Pakistan captain missed the first Test in Leeds because of a hand injury.
Umar Gul Confirms Full Practice at Lord’s
Gul was asked about Babar’s availability for Thursday’s match. He said the right-handed batter completed a full net session without showing any signs of pain.
“Babar faced throwdowns and also batted against our fast bowlers during the sessions. He completed his full batting practice in the nets,” Gul said during his media interaction.
Meanwhile, Lord’s Cricket Ground also shared pictures of Babar practising indoors with the coaching staff. The images further increased hopes that he could return for the series decider.
Background of Babar’s Injury
Earlier this month, Babar suffered the injury during a three-day match against PCC Select XI in Beckenham.
Batting at No. 3 in Pakistan’s first innings, he was struck on the hand by a fast delivery from Manny Lumsden in the 39th over.
Babar immediately retired hurt after scoring five runs. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s medical staff later advised him to rest. As a result, he missed the opening Test at Headingley.
Pakistan now need a strong response at Lord’s after losing the first Test. Therefore, Babar’s possible return could provide a massive boost to the batting line-up as the Green Shirts look to level the three-match series.
