PTA Extends Balance Validity to 180 Days From October 2026

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has ordered mobile operators to keep prepaid balances and recharges valid for at least 180 days.

The new rule will take effect on October 1, 2026. It will give prepaid users more time to use their mobile balance.

PTA said the measure will protect consumers. It will also ensure that all mobile operators follow the same minimum validity period.

PTA Clarifies Balance Restoration Rule

PTA has also clarified how operators should handle expired balances.

Customers can recover an expired balance if they recharge their number while the SIM remains active and usable. The requirement follows the Consumer Protection Regulations.

The regulator said the decision aims to strengthen consumer protection. PTA also wants to promote fair practices across Pakistan’s telecom sector.

The new 180-day validity period will apply from October 1, giving prepaid customers greater flexibility when managing their mobile balances.
