ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Saturday assured that the entire judiciary stood with judges to ensure they remained free from external pressure.
Addressing a conference in the federal capital, he said changes had been introduced to the judicial code of conduct. The changes aim to protect judges from external pressure and strengthen public confidence in the judiciary.
District Courts Called Backbone of Justice System
CJP Afridi termed district courts the backbone of the justice system. He said empowering district judges and winning public trust remained key objectives of the judiciary.
“I am proud of my district judiciary,” the chief justice said.
He added that judicial officers continued to perform their responsibilities despite facing various difficulties.
The chief justice also urged all institutions to discharge their responsibilities effectively. He called on young judges to ensure the best possible delivery of justice.
Stronger Coordination Between Courts
CJP Afridi said the judiciary would need to further strengthen coordination between district courts and high courts.
Meanwhile, he highlighted several measures taken to improve facilities for the district judiciary.
These include solar power, internet access, clean water and e-libraries. Provincial governments are supporting these efforts.
Facilities Expanded Across Balochistan
The chief justice said authorities were working to provide basic facilities, including solar power, across all tehsils and districts of Balochistan.
According to CJP Afridi, authorities have already provided solar power, water and internet facilities in 18 districts of the province.
The remaining districts are expected to receive these facilities within a month.
Health Insurance for Judicial Officers
CJP Afridi also announced that a decision had been taken to provide health insurance facilities to judicial officers.
He said the measure would further support judicial officers and improve their welfare.
Rs3 Billion Released for Judicial Improvements
The chief justice said more than Rs3 billion had been released this year for improvements in the judiciary.
He compared the amount with the Rs900 million released over 20 years under the Access to Justice Programme.
CJP Afridi also paid tribute to judges who had sacrificed their lives while working to ensure the delivery of justice.
He stressed that the rule of law remained the need of the hour.
