ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme will be rolled out nationwide at 11:59pm on September 16, 2026, the government said on Tuesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the nationwide launch of the scheme.
Officials told the meeting that the scheme was already operational in Islamabad. It will now be extended to beneficiaries across the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the relief scheme on Sunday for owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Under the scheme, owners of two- and three-wheeled vehicles will receive a Rs100 per litre subsidy on a monthly quota of 20 litres.
Owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive the same subsidy on a monthly quota of 30 litres.
Registration Open Through SMS
The government said registration is now open nationwide through SMS to 9771.
Fuel token redemption will begin at midnight between Wednesday and Thursday.
Dar directed officials to keep the registration process simple and accessible. He also called for effective public awareness and smooth implementation at petrol stations.
The deputy prime minister urged elected representatives to spread information about the scheme and help eligible citizens register.
He also directed officials to engage volunteers from the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in public outreach and registration activities.
Fuel Stations to Receive Payments Within 24 Hours
The ninth meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy was also held under Dar’s chairmanship.
The meeting reviewed arrangements for the nationwide implementation of the relief scheme.
Dar directed that payments to participating fuel stations be settled within 24 hours through the State Bank of Pakistan.
He also instructed provincial governments to complete district-level outreach. The move is aimed at ensuring the relief reaches eligible beneficiaries smoothly.
Fuel Prices Remain High
The government introduced the scheme as fuel prices remain elevated amid disruptions to major oil supply routes in the Middle East.
The crisis around the Strait of Hormuz following the US-Iran war has affected oil supplies. Meanwhile, trade through Bab al-Mandab is also facing security risks.
Under the latest price revision, petrol is being sold at Rs380.24 per litre. High-speed diesel costs Rs409.42 per litre.
The government is currently collecting Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.
