K-Electric Ends Temporary Load Shedding in Karachi After RLNG Supply Restored

KARACHI: K-Electric has ended temporary load management across Karachi following the restoration of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supplies, ARY News reported.

The power utility said electricity generation at the BQPS-III power plant had stabilised, improving the overall power supply and allowing it to end temporary load shedding.

However, scheduled load shedding will continue in areas with high electricity theft and low bill recovery, K-Electric said. Consumers can check the regular load-shedding schedule on the utility’s official website.

K-Electric also thanked Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) and the relevant authorities for their cooperation in restoring RLNG supplies. It expressed gratitude to consumers for their patience during the temporary power management measures.

Karachi Areas Faced Extended Power Cuts

Earlier, K-Electric had introduced load shedding in several parts of Karachi that were previously exempt from power cuts. It also increased outage durations in areas already subject to scheduled load shedding, causing difficulties for residents.

The utility reportedly began introducing one-hour power cuts in phases in areas previously exempt from scheduled outages. However, electricity remained suspended for more than two hours in several localities.

Affected areas included Saddar, Clifton, Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Korangi, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, North Karachi and North Nazimabad.

Residents of Malir, Landhi, SITE, Baldia, Mauripur, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Hadeed and Scheme 33 also experienced power outages. Severe load shedding had additionally affected the Old City Area and Razzaqabad.

LNG Shortage Affected Power Generation

K-Electric had attributed the supply constraints to a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which affected electricity generation. In response, the utility introduced temporary load management measures to cope with reduced generation capacity.

The restoration of RLNG supplies has now stabilised generation at BQPS-III, enabling K-Electric to end the temporary measures. Scheduled load shedding will remain in place in areas where electricity theft is high and bill recovery is low.
