SYDNEY: Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has been suspended for two matches after breaching Cricket Australia’s prescription medication rules.
The 33-year-old recently impressed during Australia’s one-day series against Bangladesh. She apologised for failing to meet the standards expected of her.
Cricket Australia said in a statement that Schutt had breached its Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines regarding prescription medication.
The governing body clarified that the breach involved a single incident outside competition and was not related to performance-enhancing purposes.
Schutt to Miss Two Upcoming Matches
Schutt’s suspension will see her miss Australia’s third and final T20 match against New Zealand on Thursday. She will also miss the Adelaide Strikers’ opening game of the Women’s Big Bash League later this month.
“We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game,” Cricket Australia said.
Schutt accepted the penalty and apologised for the incident.
“I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me,” she said.
“I’m sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I’ve received.”
Schutt has represented Australia in 114 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 126 T20 internationals. The suspension comes as she prepares for upcoming domestic and international commitments.
