Amazon has introduced the Echo Show 16, a premium smart display that joins the Echo Show 15 lineup. The new model features a 10% larger 1080p screen, an optional nano-texture finish and a slimmer aluminum body.
The chassis is 40% thinner than its predecessor. Users can mount the device on a wall or place it on a separately sold stand.
Upgraded Audio and Camera Features
The Echo Show 16 includes a new sound system with eight woofers and two tweeters. Amazon says the setup improves audio quality during video calls and when using the device as a Fire TV. It also adjusts sound automatically to suit the room.
For video calls, the device features a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Alexa+ can recognize people from up to 17 feet away. In addition, a night vision mode allows the camera to work as a security camera.
Amazon has also added a room temperature sensor and a processor that is 20% faster than the chip in the Echo Show 15.
Smart Home Controls and Privacy
Beyond video calls and entertainment, the Echo Show 16 focuses on smart home management. Users can control compatible devices, interact with Amazon’s Alexa+ AI chatbot and display tools such as calendars and photo galleries.
For added privacy, a dedicated button disables all cameras and microphones.
Price and Availability
Amazon expects to begin shipping the Echo Show 16 before the end of the year. The device will be available in two display options.
The glossy-screen model will cost $499.99, while the matte-screen version will retail for $569.99. Buyers can also purchase a tilt-adjustable stand for an additional $124.99.
Customers who pre-order the device will receive a $100 discount.
