After a scoreless opening quarter, Pakistan broke through in the 21st minute when Sufyan converted a penalty corner. South Korea responded with an equaliser, but Pakistan regained the lead before halftime through Abu Bakar.
The hosts tightened their grip after the interval, and Sufyan struck again in the 38th minute to put the result beyond doubt. The win also underlined Pakistan’s effectiveness from penalty corners, an area that often proves decisive in international hockey.
Pakistan are hosting an official bilateral international hockey series on home soil for the first time in nearly 20 years, with the remaining matches scheduled for August 2, 4 and 7.
