ICC Player of the Month July Nominees Announced

The ICC has unveiled its Player of the Month nominees for July, with Harry Brook, Justin Greaves and Tanzid Hasan on the men’s shortlist. Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hayley Matthews were nominated in the women’s category.

The ICC has named England captain Harry Brook, West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves and Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan on the men’s shortlist for its Player of the Month award for July. England skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt heads the women’s nominations.

Also in contention on the women’s side are Sri Lanka batter Harshitha Samarawickrama and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews. Both earned nominations after strong returns in international cricket during the month.

Men’s shortlist

Brook earned his place after a prolific T20I series against India. He scored 229 runs in five matches at an average of 114.50 and a strike rate of 214.01.

He was named Player of the Series and ended as the top run-scorer. However, he made 31 runs in the ODI leg.

Greaves earned his nomination after contributing with both bat and ball for the West Indies. He made 180 against Sri Lanka after the tourists declared on 549/9.

He then took eight wickets in two Tests against Pakistan. Across July, he compiled 215 Test runs at an average of 71.66 and claimed eight wickets at 10.25.

Tanzid completed the men’s list after a productive tour of Zimbabwe. He scored 159 runs in three ODIs at 53.00.

He also added 140 in the T20I series at an average of 70.00. Bangladesh won the series 2-1.

Women’s shortlist

Sciver-Brunt earned her place after helping England reach the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Despite carrying a calf injury, she struck 75 against South Africa in the semi-final. She followed that with an unbeaten 58 in the final against Australia.

Samarawickrama’s nomination came after her role in Sri Lanka’s 2-1 ODI series win over Pakistan.

She made a century in the second match and an unbeaten 71 in the decider. She finished with 173 runs in the series and won the Player of the Series award.

Matthews joined the shortlist after producing a career-best unbeaten 159 against Ireland. She also took three wickets in the same match.

She then added another century as the West Indies completed a 3-0 sweep in the ODI series.
