Mohammad Nawaz Suffers Finger Injury
LAHORE: All-rounder Mohammad Nawaz will miss the remainder of the National Champions Cup 2026 after suffering an injury, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Friday.
The 32-year-old represented Pakistan Gold in the four-team tournament. He injured his right middle finger while fielding against Pakistan Blues on August 12 at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Nawaz completed his full quota of 10 overs in the fixture. However, he underwent scans the following day. The scans confirmed a fracture, ruling the all-rounder out for a minimum of three weeks.
PCB Confirms Mohammad Nawaz’s Injury
“Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been ruled out of the [National Champions Cup] after sustaining an injury to his right middle finger, it was confirmed on Friday,” the PCB said in a press release.
“Nawaz was taken for scans on Thursday, 13 August, which confirmed a fracture to the finger, ruling him out of action for a minimum of three weeks.
“He picked up the injury while fielding for his team [Pakistan Gold] in their 12 August fixture against [Pakistan Blues]. He did complete his quota of 10 overs in the game which, Gold lost by six wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium.”
Nawaz to Begin Recovery Process
The PCB further shared that Nawaz will report to its Sports and Exercise Medicine Department after two weeks. He will then begin conditioning and progress through the required Return-to-Play (RTP) protocols.
The PCB medical team will supervise his recovery and conditioning process.
Nawaz’s Only Champions Cup Appearance
The August 12 fixture against Pakistan Blues marked Nawaz’s only appearance in the National Champions Cup 2026.
During the match, he scored eight runs with the bat. He also went wicketless and conceded 44 runs from his 10 overs.
Pakistan Gold lost the fixture by six wickets at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Nawaz will now miss the remainder of the tournament as he begins his recovery from the finger fracture.
