ICC Fines Pakistan and Sri Lanka for Slow Over-Rates in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Pakistan and Sri Lanka for slow over-rates during Sunday’s ODI tri-series opener in Rawalpindi. England also feature in the tournament.

The ICC fined Pakistan players 10% of their match fees. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan players received a 5% penalty.

On-field umpires Asif Yaqoob and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi reported the offences.

Match referee Jeff Crowe imposed the penalties after Pakistan fell two overs short of the required rate. Sri Lanka fell one over short after the officials considered time allowances.

According to the ICC, Article 2.22 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel sets a penalty of 5% of a player’s match fee for each over his team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis pleaded guilty and accepted the sanctions. Therefore, the ICC did not need to hold formal hearings.

Pakistan Beat Sri Lanka by 37 Runs

Meanwhile, Pakistan opened the tri-series with a 37-run victory over Sri Lanka. Salman Ali Agha’s century and a strong bowling display helped secure the win.

Pakistan set Sri Lanka a target of 306 runs. However, Sri Lanka managed 268 before losing all their wickets in 48.1 overs.

Captain Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan’s bowling attack as the hosts secured victory in the opening match.
