ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Junaid Akbar has said party protesters will approach Islamabad through multiple routes, including the motorway and Margalla Hills.
Addressing supporters, Junaid Akbar referred to PTI’s previous protest and said the party had not expected state forces to open fire on demonstrators.
He said party workers had collected the bodies during the previous protest and returned.
“This time, we know that the state will open fire,” Junaid Akbar said.
He also said the party would not remain silent if protesters were killed again.
“If this happens again, we will pick up the bodies and new people will come,” he said.
Junaid Akbar also used a reference to Somnath while describing the planned protest.
“I make you a witness, we will turn Islamabad into Somnath,” he said.
Aleema Khan Detained Under MPO
Separately, PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan was detained by police in Lahore on Sunday under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance.
Family and party sources said she was taken into custody while travelling from her residence in Lahore towards Gymkhana. Her vehicle was later taken to a police station.
The Lahore deputy commissioner subsequently issued a 30-day detention order under the MPO, according to the order reported by multiple outlets.
The order cited police and intelligence reports that described her activities as a potential threat to public safety and law and order.
Aleema Khan was subsequently shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail, according to reports.
PTI has condemned her detention. The development comes ahead of the party’s planned September 27 march to Islamabad.
The government has said it will take measures to prevent the planned protest from entering the federal capital.
