Meta has launched Muse, a personal AI agent designed to complete tasks, manage projects, and help users turn long-term goals into practical action plans.
Powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s most capable model for agentic work, Muse can be used through its own app or directly inside WhatsApp.
What Muse Can Do
Unlike a standard chatbot, Muse can take actions for users. It can send emails, book travel, open websites, fill out forms, negotiate on someone’s behalf, and continue working even after the app is closed.
For larger goals, it can create a personalized plan, organize time and resources, and continue making progress until it needs additional information or approval.
Muse also remembers useful details from conversations. Meta says it could, for example, turn a saved Instagram recipe into a shopping list, plan a dinner menu, and remember guests’ dietary preferences.
Built Around Security and Privacy
Muse runs inside a dedicated cloud computer called Muse Secure VM, which stores the agent, connected data, and credentials in an isolated environment.
A separate Sentinel agent monitors what Muse does and controls what can reach the internet. Users are asked for permission before sensitive actions such as sending an email or making a purchase.
Meta says Muse cannot directly view passwords or payment information. Users also decide which services it can access and whether it can only read information or take actions on their behalf.
People can disconnect services, change permissions, ask Muse to forget specific information, and opt out of having their interactions used to train Meta’s AI models.
Meta also says Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with its advertising systems.
Payments and Future Privacy Features
Muse supports Link by Stripe for purchases, using one-time payment cards that hide users’ actual card details. Eligible purchases are also covered by Link’s purchase protections.
Support for Shop Pay and 1Password is planned later.
Meta also intends to launch Muse Confidential VM later this year, encrypting the entire virtual machine with a key controlled only by the user, so Meta says even it would not be able to access the stored data.
Availability
Muse is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with support for AI glasses planned later.
Meta says most usage will be free, while subscription plans will be available for people who want higher usage limits.
