Mir Hamza Joins Glamorgan for Final Five County Championship Matches

Pakistan left-arm pacer Mir Hamza has joined Glamorgan for the final five matches of the 2026 County Championship season.

The club announced that the 32-year-old will begin his second spell with the Cardiff-based side on August 27.

Hamza will join the team when Glamorgan face Hampshire at Sophia Gardens.

Hamza Returns for Second Glamorgan Spell

Hamza previously represented Glamorgan during the 2024 County Championship.

During his first spell, the Pakistan fast bowler played six matches for the club. He took two wickets at an average of 35.5.

Glamorgan will now rely on his experience during the final stages of the season.

The left-arm pacer has also played seven Tests for Pakistan. His most recent Test appearance came against South Africa in December last year.

Glamorgan Welcome Experienced Pacer

Glamorgan Director of Cricket Mark Wallace welcomed Hamza’s return to the squad.

Wallace said the club was delighted to have the Pakistani fast bowler for the final five matches.

He also highlighted the limited availability of overseas players at this stage of the season.

A busy international calendar has reduced the number of available players. Meanwhile, domestic cricket seasons have also restarted in the Southern Hemisphere.

Therefore, Wallace said Glamorgan were fortunate to secure a player of Hamza’s quality for the final run.

Glamorgan Remain in Title Race

Glamorgan currently sit fourth in the County Championship Division One standings.

The Welsh county returned to the top flight after a 21-year absence. Despite the long gap, the team has remained competitive this season.

Glamorgan sit just nine points behind leaders and defending champions Nottinghamshire.

Six matches remain in their campaign. Therefore, Hamza’s arrival could provide an important boost during the final stretch.

Leicestershire Match Comes First

Before Hamza joins the squad, Glamorgan will face Leicestershire in their next County Championship match.

The fixture will take place at Grace Road from August 20 to 23.

After that match, Hamza will link up with the team for the Hampshire fixture.

His return gives Glamorgan another experienced fast-bowling option. The club will hope he can make a strong contribution in the final five matches of the season.
