The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned Pakistan cricketers Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan for questioning over information obtained from their mobile phones.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took custody of the cricketers’ mobile phones before handing them over to the relevant authorities.
NCCIA Summons Pakistan Cricketers
The NCCIA later issued notices to Imam and Rizwan. The agency summoned both players for questioning as part of its ongoing investigation.
A third Pakistan cricketer has also reportedly received a notice from the agency.
Investigators will examine information retrieved from the players’ mobile phones during the inquiry.
However, the reason behind the PCB taking custody of the phones remains unclear. The board has not yet issued an official explanation.
PCB Makes Major Changes After England Defeats
Pakistan suffered heavy defeats in the first two Tests of the ongoing series against England.
Following the defeat at Lord’s, the PCB took emergency measures. The board released seven players and two coaches from the squad.
The seven players were Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
The PCB also released head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their respective roles.
Meanwhile, white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and bowling coach Ashley Noffke were called up to take charge of the team.
PCB Questions Selection of Rizwan and Imam
Earlier this month, the PCB sought a written explanation from a member of its Selection/Advisory Committee.
The explanation concerned the selection of Rizwan and Imam for Pakistan’s Test squads for the 2026 tours of the West Indies and England.
According to a PCB notice issued on August 31, the committee member participated in a selection meeting on June 2.
During that meeting, the committee assigned responsibility for considering and selecting players for Pakistan’s Test squads for the two series.
The notice stated that Rizwan and Imam made the shortlist based on the committee member’s recommendation.
Selection Committee Asked for Explanation
The PCB has now asked the committee member to explain the basis and rationale behind selecting the two players.
The board wants details about the selection criteria, performance considerations and other factors considered during the process.
It also instructed the member to clearly explain why Rizwan and Imam were selected.
Furthermore, the PCB asked the member to outline the process that led to the final selection decision.
The board required the written response within 24 hours of receiving the notice.
The PCB described the matter as “urgent and of utmost importance.”
