Pakistan were bowled out for 133 in their first innings of the third Test against England at Edgbaston on Wednesday. Another dramatic collapse left the visitors in trouble during their ongoing tour of England.
After England asked Pakistan to bat first, the visitors lost their first wicket in the third over. Ollie Robinson trapped returning opener Saim Ayub lbw for a 10-ball duck.
England Dominate Pakistan’s Top Order
Jofra Archer then dismissed Pakistan’s other opener, Azan Awais. The batter scored nine runs from 20 deliveries, including two boundaries.
His dismissal reduced Pakistan to 14-2 after 5.5 overs.
Robinson struck again soon after. He removed Abdullah Shafique for three off 16 balls.
Archer followed in the very next over by dismissing former captain Shan Masood for five off seven deliveries. Pakistan had fallen to 28-4.
Babar Azam Falls as Collapse Continues
Pakistan lost half of their side in the 15th over.
Josh Tongue bowled captain Babar Azam for seven from 18 balls. Babar hit only one boundary during his short stay at the crease.
The dismissal left Pakistan struggling at 48-5.
Debutant wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori opened his Test account with a boundary off Tongue. However, he could not stay long at the crease.
Tongue dismissed Ghori for four from five deliveries to claim his second wicket of the innings.
Another debutant, Imran Randhawa, also had a short innings. Tongue removed him for his third wicket, leaving Pakistan at 84-7 after 20.4 overs.
Saud Shakeel Leads Brief Resistance
Razaullah scored 11 runs before Robinson dismissed him shortly after lunch. Pakistan had reached 101-8 at that point.
Saud Shakeel then continued the resistance with a brisk 43 off 47 deliveries. However, England soon removed him with the score on 107.
The last-wicket pair of Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali added 26 runs. Archer finally dismissed Abbas to end Pakistan’s innings at 133.
Tongue, Archer and Robinson Lead England Attack
Josh Tongue finished with four wickets for England.
Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson claimed three wickets each. Their combined bowling effort helped England dismantle Pakistan’s batting lineup and restrict the visitors to just 133 runs in the first innings.
