ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s mobile phone imports fell nearly 9 percent year-on-year during the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The country imported mobile phones worth $274.129 million in July and August, compared with $300.741 million during the same period last year.
The import bill declined more sharply in rupee terms. It fell 10.53 percent to Rs. 76.267 billion from Rs. 85.245 billion a year earlier.
Mobile Phone Imports Decline in August
Mobile phone imports stood at $133.6 million in August.
The figure was 13.8 percent lower than the $155.129 million recorded in August last year. It was also 4.80 percent below July’s imports of $140.434 million.
The decline indicates weaker import spending on mobile phones during the second month of the new fiscal year.
Telecom Equipment Imports Rise
The broader telecom sector recorded a different trend during July and August.
Telecom equipment imports increased 8.95 percent to $432.044 million from $395.536 million during the same period last year.
In rupee terms, telecom equipment imports rose 6.95 percent to Rs. 120.211 billion from Rs. 112.398 billion.
The increase came as investment continued in network expansion and preparations for next-generation mobile services in Pakistan.
However, telecom equipment imports also lost momentum in August.
Imports stood at $197.269 million during the month, down 3.42 percent from $204.263 million in August last year.
The August figure was also 15.98 percent lower than the $234.775 million recorded in July 2026.
