ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Qatar have agreed to strengthen their security partnership and expand cooperation on internal security, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday.
The two sides held detailed discussions on enhancing cooperation in areas related to internal security. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to closer ties between their respective interior ministries.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Islamabad and Doha were working together to promote regional peace and stability. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to cooperating with Qatar on matters of mutual interest, particularly internal security and regional stability.
The Qatari interior minister said his country attached great importance to its relations with Pakistan.
Naqvi Highlights Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts
The meeting took place a day after Naqvi addressed the 8th Global Security Forum in Doha. During his speech on Monday, he said Pakistan had made every possible effort to bring the United States and Iran to the negotiating table.
Naqvi acknowledged that tensions had escalated sharply at times. However, he said Islamabad had continued its diplomatic efforts despite the challenges.
He also praised Qatar’s efforts to mediate between Washington and Tehran, noting that Islamabad and Doha had worked together to prevent further regional escalation.
“Peace cannot be achieved in a single meeting. It requires patience, trust and continuous efforts,” Naqvi said, stressing the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement to resolve conflicts.
Regional Tensions Remain High
The talks come amid continuing regional tensions. Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces are fighting Houthi rebels, who have also targeted Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days remained on the table. He said progress depended on Washington’s response to Iran’s conditions.
Against this backdrop, Pakistan and Qatar have reiterated their commitment to diplomatic engagement and regional stability.
