RIYADH: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have agreed to immediately implement their collective defence commitments and ensure the rapid deployment of agreed military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA) in Riyadh.
According to a joint statement shared by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the deployment will take place under approved arrangements and in accordance with the national laws of all three countries.
The measures aim to strengthen military readiness, integration and the collective ability of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye to respond to security threats.
The three countries also reaffirmed that the security of each member is an integral part of their collective security.
Three Countries Condemn Attacks on Saudi Arabia
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye strongly condemned attempts to target the holy cities of Makkah and Madina.
They also condemned continued attacks targeting cities and civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
The three countries reaffirmed their unequivocal rejection of any attack or threat against Saudi Arabia’s security and territorial integrity.
Pakistan and Turkiye praised the vigilance and readiness of the Saudi Armed Forces.
They also commended the professionalism and capabilities of Saudi forces in countering threats and protecting the kingdom’s security and territorial integrity.
The three sides discussed the latest regional developments and expressed their resolve to work together for regional peace and stability.
Pakistan reaffirmed its full support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security.
Islamabad also reiterated its commitment to efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
Pakistani Officials Attend Emergency Meeting
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan at the emergency meeting.
The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthi group said on Thursday that the group had attacked a power distribution station in Madina that supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August.
Under the agreement, an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all three countries.
Nauman Mahmood Appointed MJDA Secretary-General
Pakistan’s Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood (retd) has been appointed the first secretary-general of the MJDA for a three-year term.
The appointment was made during an emergency meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee (S-PDC) in Riyadh on October 5.
The meeting was convened to discuss security developments and threats facing Saudi Arabia.
The committee welcomed Nauman Mahmood and wished him success in his new role.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye also expressed confidence in his contribution to strengthening the alliance and advancing its objectives.
The appointment is part of efforts to develop the MJDA’s institutional structure.
The committee reviewed the outcomes of political and military consultations held ahead of the meeting and approved the recommendations presented to it.
It also reaffirmed that the alliance represents a firm commitment to collective defence and a unified response to threats.
