The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced a major increase in prize money for the upcoming national hockey championships.
The federation has raised the total prize pool tenfold to Rs. 28 million.
Players to Receive Bigger Cash Prizes
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said players can now earn cash prizes worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
The new prize structure marks a major change for domestic hockey competitions. In the past, players mainly received daily allowances and accommodation.
This time, the PHF wants to give players stronger financial rewards for their performances.
PHF Aims to Boost Domestic Hockey
According to the PHF, the higher prize money will encourage players to perform at a higher level.
The federation also wants to make domestic hockey more competitive. Better financial incentives could motivate players to take national competitions more seriously.
Meanwhile, the championships will also help the PHF identify promising players for Pakistan’s national teams.
Three National Championships Planned
The upcoming competitions will cover players from several age groups.
The events will include the National Senior, Junior, and Under-15 Hockey Championships.
These tournaments will give players a chance to compete at the national level. They will also provide selectors with an opportunity to assess emerging talent.
Championships Scheduled for January 2027
The PHF plans to hold the national championships in January 2027.
Further details about venues and participating teams will come later. The federation is also expected to finalize how it will distribute the Rs. 28 million prize pool.
The increased rewards could give domestic hockey a major boost. The PHF hopes the new approach will help develop stronger players for Pakistan’s national teams.
