Gohar Says PTI’s October 4 Protest March Remains in Place
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has said the party’s planned protest march on October 4 remains in place for now.
Speaking to the media, Gohar said he met a delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and invited it to attend an All Parties Conference (APC).
He said the PPP delegation would confirm its participation after consulting its leadership.
The proposed APC will discuss the country’s political situation, security concerns and provincial matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar added.
Gohar Raises Concerns Over KP’s Autonomy
The PTI chairman criticised what he described as the removal of powers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while votes had been taken in Punjab.
“If provincial autonomy in KP is affected today, Punjab will face the same situation tomorrow,” he said.
Gohar maintained that governments should be removed through constitutional procedures rather than “signals”.
He said PTI had postponed its long march until October 4 by consensus, following a decision of the party’s political committee.
Afridi to Remain KP Chief Minister
Gohar said the mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa belonged to PTI founder Imran Khan.
He added that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would remain in office as long as he retained the support of the party founder.
The PTI chairman also rejected reports attributed to Noorain Niazi, saying he and his family had denied the claims.
PTI Warns Against Governor’s Rule
Questioning the possibility of governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar asked what grounds could justify such a move.
“Do they want to wipe out the Pashtun mandate in this way?” he said.
He warned that PTI would strongly resist any attempt to impose governor’s rule or an emergency in the province.
Gohar also said terrorism could not serve as a justification for imposing governor’s rule.
He described terrorists as a common enemy of all four provinces and the people of Pakistan.
