ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-i-Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) on Sunday formed a six-member committee to consult political parties and build consensus on the agenda for a proposed multi-party conference (MPC).
The opposition alliance had announced plans for the conference earlier this month. The proposed moot is expected to discuss key national issues, including law and order, the economy, inflation and the creation of new provinces.
According to a statement issued by the opposition alliance, the committee comprises Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and TTAP Secretary General Asad Qaiser.
The other members are Vice Chairman Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai and PTI core committee member Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
The committee will contact other political parties and consult them on the proposed conference’s agenda.
It will also work towards reaching an agreement on the way forward, according to the notification.
The consultations and coordination process will continue under the guidance of TTAP leadership.
Opposition Plans Multi-Party Conference
On September 11, the opposition announced plans to consult political parties about convening an all-parties conference.
Barrister Gohar made the announcement after a meeting between PTI leaders and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) representatives.
He said political parties would be taken into confidence on national issues, including the law and order situation, economic challenges, inflation, lawlessness and the creation of new provinces.
The opposition has since accelerated contacts with other political parties. TTAP leaders also agreed to coordinate with political forces outside the alliance to convene the conference on critical national issues.
JUI-F had earlier agreed to participate in the proposed MPC after consultations with PTI leaders.
The opposition alliance is now expected to continue consultations with other political parties before finalising the conference agenda and arrangements.
