CUPERTINO: Apple is reportedly planning two launch events in October, with the first potentially taking place on October 13.
The first event could introduce Apple’s smart home hub with a square 7-inch touchscreen. Apple may also unveil a new Apple TV 4K and a HomePod mini featuring Siri AI.
New iPad Mini Could Get OLED Display
Apple is also expected to introduce a new iPad mini at the event.
The compact tablet could receive the Apple A20 Pro chip and an OLED display for the first time. The current model uses an IPS panel.
However, leaker yeux1122 claims Apple will use a 60Hz LTPS OLED panel instead of a 120Hz LTPO OLED display.
As a result, animations may appear less smooth. This could make the tablet less appealing to gamers.
Still, the combination of a powerful processor and compact design could make the next iPad mini suitable for gaming.
Second Event Could Focus on New Macs
Apple could hold a second launch event during the final week of October. This event is expected to focus on new Mac models.
The highlight could be the next-generation MacBook Pro, which may reportedly carry the MacBook Ultra name.
Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman recently said the new laptop could be significantly lighter. He has now suggested that Apple may make the device only slightly thinner.
For comparison, the 14-inch MacBook Pro measures 15.5mm in thickness and weighs 1.6kg. The 16-inch model is 16.8mm thick and weighs 2.15kg.
OLED Touchscreen Could Replace MacBook Notch
Besides the design changes, the next MacBook Pro is expected to receive an OLED touchscreen.
The display could also replace the existing notch with a Dynamic Island.
However, Apple is reportedly planning to use the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in the previous-generation model.
Apple has not officially confirmed the reported October launch plans or the specifications of the upcoming devices.
