Haris Rauf Likely to Join Adelaide Strikers for BBL 16

ADELAIDE: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf is likely to join Adelaide Strikers for the 16th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), according to a report in the Herald Sun.

Rauf could move to the Strikers after spending five seasons with Melbourne Stars.

The 32-year-old played 33 matches for the Stars and claimed 56 wickets at an average of 16.48. His tally includes a hat-trick.

Rauf enjoyed an impressive BBL 15 campaign, taking 20 wickets. He also became one of only 10 players to claim a hat-trick in the tournament’s history.

Strikers Strengthen Overseas Roster

Adelaide Strikers have already signed former England all-rounder Ben Stokes and New Zealand middle-order batter Mark Chapman.

Meanwhile, New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has opted to remain on a central contract with New Zealand despite receiving a lucrative offer.

BBL 16 Schedule Announced

The full schedule for BBL 16 has also been announced, with the season opener set to be held in India for the first time.

The 44-match tournament will return on Christmas Eve for the first time in four years. The final is scheduled for January 26, Australia Day.

The regular season will conclude with back-to-back double-headers on January 16 and 17. The four-team finals series will then begin with the Qualifier on January 19.

The championship match will be played on January 26, with a reserve day available if required.

The schedule was designed to avoid a clash with the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur. It also makes use of the Australia Day public holiday.

Australia’s Test players are likely to miss the final stages of the BBL as they prepare for the tour of India following the conclusion of the Trans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand.
