The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned UAE batter Asif Khan for 15 months after he tested positive for a prohibited substance during an out-of-competition doping test.
The 36-year-old provided a sample on September 8, 2025. Tests later detected a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance.
Asif Accepts the Sanction
Asif admitted to violating Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. He accepted the 15-month ban through a Case Resolution Agreement involving the ICC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The ICC backdated the suspension to September 8, 2025. It will remain in effect until December 7, 2026.
Asif can return to team training and use facilities from October 8, 2026. However, he cannot play competitive cricket until December 8, 2026.
ICC Disqualifies Previous Results
The ICC also disqualified Asif’s individual results between September 8, 2025, and December 29, 2025. His provisional suspension began on December 29.
As a result, he will lose any medals, points, prize money, and other awards earned during that period.
UAE Batter Remains Unavailable in 2026
Asif has been an important member of the UAE cricket team since making his international debut in 2022.
He has played 38 One-Day Internationals and 56 T20 Internationals for the UAE.
The suspension means the experienced batter will remain unavailable for competitive cricket for the rest of 2026.
