PESHAWAR: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Corps Headquarters Peshawar on Tuesday and reviewed the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the field marshal received a briefing on the security situation in KP, ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management and the operational preparedness of formations deployed in the province.
Field Marshal Munir praised the high morale, readiness and professionalism of officers and troops. He also acknowledged their commitment to protecting the country and its people.
He directed formations to remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness.
The army chief said the armed forces, with the support of the nation, remained determined to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country.
Munir Pays Tribute to Martyrs
During his visit, Field Marshal Munir laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha.
He paid tribute to those who lost their lives defending the country and fighting terrorism. He also reaffirmed that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
The Peshawar Corps commander received Field Marshal Munir upon his arrival at the headquarters.
Visit Follows Kohat Police Lines Attack
The visit came days after a deadly attack at the old Police Lines in Kohat.
The attack and subsequent clearance operation killed 23 people, including 17 police personnel and six civilians, according to police and Counter-Terrorism Department officials. Eight terrorists were also killed during the operation.
Police, CTD teams, Elite Force commandos and security forces took part in the overnight clearance operation. The forces cleared key sections of the compound after a prolonged exchange of fire.
The attack and the recent militant incidents have increased security concerns in KP.
Pakistan has also carried out intelligence-based operations against militant positions in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the recent attacks.
KP Remains Major Security Hotspot
Militant activity has increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent years.
According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the two provinces accounted for nearly 96% of violence-related fatalities in Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.
KP recorded 475 deaths, accounting for more than 61% of the nationwide total. Balochistan recorded 265 deaths, or about 34%.
KP also recorded 151 violent incidents during the quarter, representing 57% of the national total. Balochistan followed with 94 incidents, or 35%.
The security situation has remained a major concern since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used by militant groups for attacks against Pakistan. Pakistan maintains that Afghanistan has not fully addressed these concerns.
