KP Apex Committee Vows to Improve Living Standards and Security

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Apex Committee has pledged to improve living standards, accelerate socioeconomic development and provide basic facilities in underdeveloped and terrorism-affected areas of the province.

The committee met at Governor House in Peshawar under the joint chairmanship of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Participants reviewed the security situation and discussed measures to maintain law and order.

According to a Governor House handout, the meeting was attended by members of the advisory council, the Peshawar corps commander, the chief secretary, the inspector general of police and other senior civil and military officials.

Coordinated Efforts to Eliminate Terrorism

The committee reviewed the overall security situation and discussed strategies to eliminate terrorism and establish lasting peace across KP.

It directed relevant institutions to take coordinated, effective and decisive action against terrorism. The forum also stressed that intelligence-based operations would continue, with all available resources used to improve law and order.

Participants emphasised the need to strengthen the operational capacity of the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The committee decided to provide both departments with modern equipment, vehicles, armoured vehicles, effective weaponry, additional personnel and other essential resources.

The forum reaffirmed that counterterrorism efforts and maintaining peace remained shared priorities for all state institutions. It also stressed that there would be no compromise on these objectives.

Focus on Education, Healthcare and Public Welfare

Alongside security measures, the committee agreed to give greater attention to longstanding public concerns, particularly education, healthcare and the quality of life in urban areas.

Participants observed that public welfare, access to basic facilities and socioeconomic development were closely linked to public security and sustainable peace. They also noted that these areas had remained neglected in the past.

The forum agreed to improve public service delivery and make government services more accessible to residents. It also pledged to ensure that basic facilities reach people at their doorsteps.

According to the handout, authorities will incorporate public suggestions, local needs and community priorities into policymaking and practical measures.

The committee expressed its resolve to pursue peace, stability and development through coordinated strategies and cooperation among relevant institutions.

Naqvi Says Federal and KP Governments Are on the Same Page

Addressing the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said it was the first time he could proudly state that the federal and provincial governments were on the same page.

His remarks came as the committee emphasised cooperation among state institutions to address security challenges and improve conditions for people across the province.
