Pakistan Army Troops Deployed in KP Under Article 245

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has issued a notification authorising the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to assist the civil administration, ARY News reported.

The deployment has been approved under Article 245 of the Constitution for the duration of the emergency declared on October 11.

According to the notification, the move aims to protect citizens’ lives and property, as well as government installations across the province. The army will also assist the civil administration in maintaining law and order.

Governor to Determine Troop Requirements

The notification states that the KP governor, in consultation with General Headquarters (GHQ), will determine the number of troops and resources required for the deployment.

The formal notification will be published in Part II of the Gazette of Pakistan.

KP Advisory Council Announced

Earlier, an 11-member advisory council for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was announced. Its members include Dr Syed Amir Abdullah, Tariq Mahmood Pasha and Lieutenant General (retd) Nigar Johar Khan.

The other members are Usman Saifullah Khan, Amir Javed, Samar Haroon Bilour, Dr Muhammad Irshad, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Qureshi, Kifayatullah Khan, Asif Rafiq Afridi and Dr Sarfaraz Ali Shah.

Emergency and Governor’s Rule in KP

The development follows the federal government’s decision to impose an emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid concerns over the province’s law and order situation.

President Asif Ali Zardari signed the summary for the constitutional measures under Articles 232 and 234 on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the presidential proclamation, an increase in terrorist incidents and serious security threats prompted the decision.

The proclamation specifically cited attacks on government installations and law enforcement agencies, warning that these incidents posed significant risks to security and public order.
