Pakistan finished its 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign with just one medal. Boxer Fatima Zahra secured the country’s only podium finish by winning bronze in the women’s 60kg event.
The country sent a 21-member contingent to compete in several sports at the Glasgow Games. However, Pakistan returned with only one medal. The result marked one of the country’s poorest performances in Commonwealth Games history.
This was only the second time Pakistan had finished a Commonwealth Games with a single medal. The first was at Kuala Lumpur 1998, where the country’s only medal was a silver, a better result than the bronze won in Glasgow.
Pakistan’s only campaign worse than Glasgow 2026 came at Auckland 1990, when the country failed to win a single medal. The Glasgow Games therefore marked Pakistan’s worst Commonwealth Games performance in the past 36 years.
Fatima’s achievement was historic, as she became the first Pakistani female boxer to win a Commonwealth Games medal. In recognition of her accomplishment, she was selected to carry Pakistan’s flag during the closing ceremony.
Pakistan’s biggest medal hopes rested on Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem, who served as the country’s flagbearer at the opening ceremony.
Nadeem qualified for the men’s javelin final with an opening throw of 78.63 meters. However, he was unable to defend the Commonwealth title he won in Birmingham four years ago. He finished ninth in the final with a best throw of 77.41 meters.
Fellow Pakistani javelin thrower Yasir Sultan also competed but narrowly missed a place in the final. He finished 14th in the qualification round with a best throw of 74.36 meters.
Pakistan’s hopes of securing another medal through experienced judoka Shah Hussain Shah ended on the final day of competition when he suffered a first-round defeat in the men’s judo event.
The Pakistani contingent also included athletes competing in wrestling, weightlifting, swimming and boxing. However, none reached the podium despite several competitive performances in their respective events.
The disappointing campaign marked a sharp decline from Pakistan’s performance at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where the country won seven medals, including two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
