Pakistan, Turkiye Sign Agreement to Combat Terrorism and Organised Crime

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation against terrorism, narcotics trafficking and organised crime. The two countries also agreed to establish a Joint Working Group to improve coordination between their interior ministries.

The decisions were reached during a meeting between Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Turkish counterpart, Mustafa Çiftçi, at the Turkish Ministry of Interior in Istanbul, according to the Pakistani interior ministry’s media wing.

Joint Efforts to Strengthen Security Cooperation

Both sides agreed to expand cooperation through technical assistance, expert exchanges and joint initiatives.

The proposed collaboration will cover cyber policing, anti-narcotics efforts, the National Police Academy and other relevant areas.

The Joint Working Group is expected to strengthen coordination and support practical cooperation between the two countries’ interior ministries.

Turkiye Reports Decline in Illegal Immigration

During the meeting, Naqvi briefed his Turkish counterpart on the results of Pakistan’s crackdown on networks involved in illegal immigration.

Çiftçi said the rate of illegal immigration from Pakistan to Turkiye had fallen from 70 per cent to 17 per cent. He appreciated Pakistan’s measures and acknowledged the reported decline.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in security and law enforcement.

Earlier, Naqvi arrived in Istanbul on an official visit to Turkiye, where he received a welcome at the airport.
