LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the inaugural PSL Cricket Development Excellence Award, with the winning franchise set to receive $200,000, equivalent to around Rs55.4 million.
The award aims to recognise franchises that make long-term investments in Pakistan cricket and establish structured pathways for player development.
According to the PCB, the award will also consider measurable progress in the professional development of cricketers.
PSL franchises to be assessed
For the inaugural award, development work carried out by franchises from PSL 3 through PSL 11 will be considered.
From future editions, the assessment will cover work completed between the two most recent PSL seasons.
The process will begin with each franchise conducting a self-assessment using a scoring model developed by the PSL.
A five-member assessment committee comprising independent experts and PCB stakeholders will then verify the submissions against supporting evidence.
The committee’s assessment will account for 80 per cent of the final score.
The remaining 20 per cent will come from fan voting.
Franchises will publish presentations highlighting their cricket development initiatives on official PSL social media platforms. Fans will then be able to rank the franchises based on their development efforts.
Six areas included in scoring model
The PCB scoring model covers six key areas:
- Player Pathway and Development: 25 per cent
- Player Impact and Match Contribution: 10 per cent
- High-Performance Infrastructure and Innovations: 15 per cent
- Grassroots and Domestic Engagement: 20 per cent
- Player Welfare and Education: 10 per cent
- Fan Voting: 20 per cent
The assessment will examine the identification and development of uncapped players, their progression and opportunities beyond the PSL, high-performance facilities and technology, and grassroots cricket initiatives.
Player welfare will also form part of the assessment.
This will include financial literacy, education, mental health support, media training, anti-doping and anti-corruption education, as well as career transition planning.
The PCB said further details about the assessment committee and fan voting schedule would be announced later.
The board also asked media organisations to use the official league name, PSL, in news reports, headlines and bulletins.
