Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over its recent decisions.
Afridi said the board should have waited until the England series ended before making major changes.
He shared his views during an appearance on Geo News’ Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath.
Afridi Calls PCB Decision ‘Wrong and Bad’
Afridi described the PCB’s recent move as a “wrong and bad decision.”
He argued that the board should have made such changes after the series.
“The world is laughing at us. We have made a joke of ourselves,” Afridi said.
The former captain added that the selection committee should have opposed the decision. He said this should have happened even if PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi approved it.
Former Captain Questions Third-Test Squad
Afridi also questioned the players selected for the third Test against England.
He said the PCB made the situation worse by selecting players who mainly play T20 cricket.
According to Afridi, consistency and merit remain major problems in Pakistan cricket.
“There is neither consistency in our decisions nor are decisions made on merit,” he said.
The former captain also advised Mohsin Naqvi to focus more closely on cricket matters. He suggested that the PCB chairman should take greater control of key cricket responsibilities.
Afridi Questions Sarfaraz Appointment
Afridi also raised questions about Sarfaraz Ahmed’s appointment as Pakistan’s head coach.
He said he was happy when Sarfaraz joined the PCB. At the time, Afridi expected him to work with the Under-19 setup.
However, Sarfaraz became the national team’s head coach within three months.
“What kind of process is this under which Sarfaraz Ahmed was made head coach within three months?” Afridi asked.
PCB Makes Major Changes After England Defeats
Afridi’s comments came after Pakistan lost the first two Tests against England.
The defeats gave England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Following the second Test, the PCB made major changes to the Test squad. The board released seven players ahead of the final match.
Saim Ayub, Abdullah Fazal, Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Saad Baig, Mohammad Imran, and Razaullah joined the squad.
The PCB also removed Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul from their roles. The white-ball coaching staff then took charge of the Test team.
Misbah-ul-Haq Reportedly Resigns
The changes also created tension within the selection setup.
Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq reportedly resigned from the selection committee. Reports said the board did not consult him about the replacement players sent to England.
The developments have added further pressure on the PCB. Pakistan now faces the challenge of rebuilding its Test setup after the disappointing England tour.
