The Supreme Court has ordered authorities to transfer incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, former Prime Minister and 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical treatment.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed issued the order. The court directed authorities to keep Imran Khan at the hospital until the next hearing on September 16.
Tight Security Ordered Around Hospital
Authorities will move the former prime minister under tight security. The court also directed officials to ensure that law and order around the hospital remains unaffected.
The court ordered the formation of a medical board to examine and treat Imran Khan.
His sister, Dr Uzma Khan, and personal physician Dr Aasim Yusuf will also attend his medical assessment and treatment. The family will bear the medical expenses.
Court Seeks Complete Medical Record
The Supreme Court issued the order after hearing petitions that sought better medical care for Imran Khan. The petitions also requested access to his family and doctors.
The court rejected the limited medical information submitted by Adiala Jail authorities. It asked officials to provide Imran Khan’s complete medical record instead of the two-page summary.
The summary covered 39 medical check-ups conducted by specialists between November 2023 and August 2026.
Details of Family Meetings Sought
The bench also directed authorities to provide details of Imran Khan’s meetings with his family over the past three years.
Officials must also submit details about his communication with his sons.
The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing until September 16. It also summoned Adiala Jail officials to appear at the next hearing.
