DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Tavengwa Mukuhlani as its Deputy Chairperson until November 2027.
Mukuhlani, who is Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket and represents Zimbabwe on the ICC Board, will succeed Imran Khwaja.
He currently serves on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs and Nominations Committees. He also chairs the HR and Remuneration Committee.
Mukuhlani will become the first Zimbabwean to serve as ICC Deputy Chairperson.
Key Role for African Cricket
The appointment comes as Zimbabwe prepares to co-host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 with South Africa and Namibia.
The tournament will mark the return of the ICC’s flagship 50-over event to Africa after 24 years.
Mukuhlani’s experience in Zimbabwean cricket administration and regional cricket is expected to support the ICC Board as preparations for the tournament continue.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah congratulated Mukuhlani on his appointment.
“I warmly congratulate Tavengwa Mukuhlani on his appointment as Deputy Chair of the ICC,” Shah said.
He added that Mukuhlani’s experience in cricket administration and understanding of the global game would be valuable to the ICC Board.
Mukuhlani Welcomes Appointment
Mukuhlani said he was honoured by the confidence placed in him by the ICC Board directors.
“I am deeply honoured by the confidence placed in me by my fellow ICC Board Directors and grateful for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chair of the ICC,” he said.
He also said he looked forward to working with ICC Chairman Jay Shah.
Mukuhlani said the ICC should continue growing cricket, creating opportunities for its members and reaching new audiences and markets.
