Bangladesh Recall Towhid Hridoy, Rest Taskin Ahmed for Afghanistan Test

DHAKA: Bangladesh have recalled Towhid Hridoy for next month’s one-off Test against Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates, while experienced fast bowler Taskin Ahmed will miss the match as part of the team’s workload management plan.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15-member squad on Wednesday for the Test, which begins in Abu Dhabi on October 9.

Hridoy returns to the Test squad after scoring an unbeaten 350 for Bangladesh A in South Africa.

Taskin, meanwhile, has been rested as Bangladesh prepare for a busy World Test Championship (WTC) schedule.

“Obviously, we are prioritising our WTC Test matches,” chief selector Habibul Bashar said.

“We want to have him (Taskin) fully available for the West Indies Test matches, so he has not been included in this Test,” he added.

Nahid Rana Also Misses Test

Fast bowler Nahid Rana was also left out of the squad because he will only become available from October 10.

The Afghanistan Test begins a day earlier on October 9.

Bangladesh are scheduled to host the West Indies for two Tests as part of their WTC campaign.

They will then face South Africa and England in the competition.
