US F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes in Germany, Pilot Ejects Safely

BERLIN: A US F-16 fighter jet assigned to Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany crashed on Tuesday, the US military said.

The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft and received medical treatment, according to the military.

Emergency response teams reached the crash site following the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Germany’s air traffic control authority said four F-16 fighter jets had taken part in a training exercise.

Two aircraft remained in the training area, while the other two began returning to Spangdahlem Air Base.

One of the returning jets is believed to have crashed while approaching the base, the authority said.

The remaining F-16 aircraft landed safely at the US Air Force base in Ramstein.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
