BAHAWALPUR: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a 17-year-old student in Bahawalpur over an alleged attempt to poison his father with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI), an agency spokesperson said on Wednesday.
According to the spokesperson, the teenager used an AI tool to seek information related to poisoning after initially attempting to harm his father.
The case came to light after the NCCIA received intelligence from abroad.
Investigators said the teenager had set up a laboratory at his residence after drawing inspiration from crime dramas. Authorities later found evidence suggesting that he had prepared chemicals at the house.
The NCCIA spokesperson said the teenager obtained chemicals from Australia and Islamabad as part of the alleged plan.
The initial attempt to harm his father failed, after which the teenager allegedly turned to an AI system for further guidance.
Following intelligence about the case, the NCCIA director ordered an investigation. The agency’s team subsequently traced the alleged activity and arrested the teenager in Bahawalpur.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case and the alleged use of AI in the attempted crime.
