Global oil prices have risen amid renewed tensions between Iran and the United States. The increase has affected fuel markets worldwide and put further pressure on prices in Pakistan.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Malik acknowledged the difficulties caused by rising fuel costs. He said developments in the international oil market had forced Pakistan to increase petroleum prices.
Government Promises Relief After Global Price Decline
Malik said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had always prioritised national interests.
He added that the government would take necessary steps to protect ordinary citizens during difficult circumstances.
“As soon as international oil prices decline, relief will also be provided to the public,” he said.
The minister said the ongoing war had affected the region. He reiterated that consumers would receive relief once global oil prices came down.
Minister Calls for Unity Against Terrorism
Malik also expressed concern over the resurgence of terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the KP chief minister, he urged him to set aside political rhetoric and recognise his national responsibilities.
Furthermore, the minister called on political leaders to put aside their differences and unite in the national interest.
He warned against allowing narrow political interests to harm the country or future generations.
Malik said the country must stand behind its military leadership in efforts to eliminate terrorism.
