CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Slams Delhi Police Over Protest Detentions

NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticised Delhi Police over its handling of protesters. He accused the force of suppressing peaceful dissent and targeting students and activists.

“Delhi Police needs to stop acting like henchmen of Amit Shah. By crushing dissent and cracking down on peaceful protesters, Delhi Police is bringing nothing but shame to the institution and the country,” Dipke said.

He compared Delhi Police’s response with Mumbai Police. According to Dipke, Mumbai Police respected citizens’ right to peaceful protest.

“Shame on you Delhi Police!” he added.

Moreover, Dipke warned that attempts to silence protesters would bring more people onto the streets. He said such actions would also strengthen the planned march to Jantar Mantar.

He announced a “massive mobilisation of young Indians” in Delhi on October 10. He also stressed that intimidation and force cannot crush the democratic right to dissent.

Delhi Police Detains Around 1,000 Protesters

Delhi Police detained around 1,000 people across the city on Friday. Officers stopped them from reaching Jantar Mantar for a demonstration scheduled for 11am.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Indian Youth Congress and other student groups called the protest.

Those detained included former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, AISA president Neha Bora and Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav.

Police also detained other AAP leaders, civil society activists, members of Left-backed student organisations and Congress youth wing workers.

Meanwhile, authorities deployed more than 5,000 security personnel around the protest site.

Protesters Demand Election Chief’s Resignation

The demonstrations focus on alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters also demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The movement gained momentum after demonstrators raised allegations of “vote theft” and voter name removals.

For instance, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited a locality where reports said officials had removed 727 of 728 names from the voter list.

The latest demonstrations follow a major CJP protest at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. Several prominent personalities attended the gathering, which called for Kumar’s resignation.
