Queen Sonja of Norway has resumed public duties following the death of her husband, King Harald V, last month.
The 89-year-old monarch died on August 28, 2026. Queen Sonja recently visited Norway’s National Archives in Oslo, marking one of her public engagements since his passing.
In a statement shared alongside photographs from the visit, the Royal House of Norway said Queen Sonja toured the National Archives at Sognsvann.
“Here she got to see how greetings, letters, children’s drawings and other memorial expressions after King Harald’s passing are collected and preserved for posterity,” the statement read.
Queen Sonja Visits National Archives
The visit gave Queen Sonja an opportunity to see how messages of condolence and tributes to King Harald are being preserved for future generations.
The Norwegian Royal Court’s official programme listed her visit to the National Archives in Oslo on October 12.
The engagement comes as the Norwegian royal family continues its public duties following the loss of King Harald, who reigned for 35 years.
Queen Sonja served as Norway’s queen alongside King Harald from 1991 until his death. Their son, Haakon, succeeded his father as King of Norway and took the regnal name Haakon VIII.
Although she no longer serves as queen consort, Queen Sonja remains a member of the royal family and continues to undertake public engagements.
