QUETTA: The Balochistan Anti-Corruption Establishment has summoned Bilal Umrani, son of Provincial Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities involving the Irrigation Department’s development and non-development funds.
According to a call-up notice issued under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1898, Bilal Umrani has been directed to appear before the establishment’s Circle Office in Railway Housing Society, Joint Road, Quetta, on October 20, 2026, at 11:30am.
Bilal Umrani serves as chairman of the Market Committee in Naseerabad.
Probe Into Alleged Misuse of Public Funds
The notice states that authorities are investigating a complaint alleging irregularities, embezzlement, corrupt practices and misuse of authority by officers and officials associated with Balochistan’s Canal Irrigation System.
The allegations concern the use of development and non-development funds allocated to the Irrigation Department.
The establishment has directed Bilal Umrani to appear before the inquiry officer in connection with the investigation. The notice also warns that failure to comply with the summons could lead to legal consequences.
The summons comes as the Balochistan government says it is working to curb corruption and irregularities in public departments. The notice does not establish any finding of wrongdoing against Bilal Umrani.
Balochistan Government Vows Action Against Corruption
Last month, provincial government officials pledged to prevent the buying and selling of government jobs following directives from Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
Addressing a meeting of the Secretaries Committee, Bugti warned that no government job would be sold in the province. He said that credible evidence of job-selling in any department would lead to action against the relevant minister and secretary.
In a statement on X, the chief minister said he had made his position clear from the outset and that the provincial cabinet and chief secretary shared his stance.
Bugti also ordered a high-level inquiry into complaints of recruitment irregularities in the Forest Department. He said those found responsible after an impartial investigation would face consequences.
